Absolute freedom does not exist within the real world.
Defining Freedom
1.) the OED definition of freedom is to be free from, servitude, inhibition, constraint. To have liberty of action, to act without restraint.
2.) Historically freedom has been a term used when one becomes free of servitude whether that be as a slave or under the reign of tyrannical king. Freedom has been a symbol of hope for those who wish to have the liberty of making decision of their own free will.
3.) Freedom for the purpose of my paper is not only physical freedom but more importantly mental freedom. I will explain how you are never free from constraints on both, in society, nature, and within ones self.
Alright, so you are getting closer. This needs to read "X is (not) Y". So you need to provide us with something that is or is not freedom. You can argue that freedom does not really exist but you need a context to put that in to make it concrete. What is it that you are going to hold up to your definition of absolute freedom? (Freedom is the "Y". You need an "X" or Xs)
ReplyDeleteFor example, "Living in a democracy is not a state of absolute freedom" might be relevant for our debates about the "freedom" we constantly appeal to (you'll have to find specific instances of this.
You have to find somewhere or some context where it is argued that we have or ought to have absolute freedom. Then it would be helpful to define what freedom we DO have in relation to that topic.
