Arguement Against Marijuana Goes up in Smoke (A)

7 specific things as to why I think It is an A paper
1.) It clearly provides the argument in the thesis and then proceeds to support the argument a quote from President Carter, an authoritative figure in America
2.) The paper provides historical information and background knowledge of marijuana and supports both by citing the World Drug Report
3.) The paper has a consistent flow and transitions well from topic to topic as mentioned at the end of the thesis
4.) The paragraphs aren't lengthy because of short sentence structure which allows the reader to get straight to the point while remembering all the information. The paragraph on marijuana addiction does this very well
5.) The paper is written in a style where it's easy to read and concise for younger readers but is appealing to the same audience of middle aged conservatives that Healy was
6.) The paper is very very specific and it's not vague at all about anything
7.) Very clear logic as well as ethos but has a subtle appeal to our emotions with pathos because of the Good it could do in our society

5 things I could use in my paper
1.) The specificity really helps the paper not only seem logical but credible and authoritative on the subject
2.)The paper flows well together by presenting the flaws of Healy's argument and then rebutting them in the same paragraph
3.) Now that we have learned more about style, I could try to adopt the same short and simple sentence structure
4.) The way the thesis and conclusion tie the paper together into one was very well done and helps the paper be more clear
5.) I would have to keep in mind that when I'm using rhetorical appeals that I remember the audience I'm writing to

Obesity as a topic

Josh this is for you because I didn't post it yesterday but I will also put the correctly cited annotated sources tonight. For my topic I'm going to do corporate fast food chains ( if needed to be more specific i could just do mcdonalds) Corporate Fast Food Chains are Bad because there is a direct link between them and the rising obesity in this country which leads to a larger cultural claim that there has been a shift in our societies traditional morals because we now favor convenience over hard work even if that work is what is keeping us healthy

Gentleman Gaga

A big point made about lady gaga is that she is, in my own words, a liar. She claims to be the defender of transgendered peoples, drag queens, and anyone of the sort but actually she doesn't believe it herself. Many people think that because she had a huge transition into fame, she is only acting the way she is to win over an audience and make money. In fact the article posted on Angel mentions how Gaga is trying to imitate other artists such as madonna, and elton john. They say she isn't original, and she is just posing as this persona to change the way sex is viewed in modern society, which is why her music videos are so strange and unique. I think that when dealing with something so unethical and illogical in my opinion the only way you can win over an audience when debating against Gaga is to use emotion. By revealing hidden personalities and quirks that she has, as much as that adds to ethos, it also makes the reader feel like the person is just a bad person, not someone who should be running the pop scene as a sex icon.

Three Topics and Freewriting

Three Topics I would be interested in would be Search Engines and how they are good and help society benefit from increased information sharing, T.V. shows such as true blood where taboo subjects are made out to be not so controversial which is also good and fast food chains and how they relate to the bigger problem of obesity which is bad. For the sake of time I am only going to free write about fast food. It's a big deal to me because I used to eat fast food all the time and I finally gave it up and lost a lot of weight. It was hard but I still did it. Which is why obesity, obese not fat, disgusts me. I believe in the my body is a temple mind set and if someone isn't willing to treat themselves right for the sake of themselves or society then maybe we should take action against the root of it all, fast food chains. I'm so surprised how people react to obesity like it's normal even if the person doesn't have anything wrong with them genetically or is living in a society where super models are so skinny and have such a big impact on culture. To make it even worse there are T.V. shows now about and for really really fat people which is enabling them to eat mcdonalds three times a day for breakfast lunch and dinner. It just goes to show how society values convenience over their own health
